

Mr. James C. Curtis, 69 of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Carolyn Curtis. James was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 29, 1953 to Doris Rosemary Leahy Curtis and the late William H. Curtis, Jr.
Jim was a 1972 graduate of East Catholic High School, Manchester, CT and an Eagle Scout. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, MA in 1977.
Jim was a Licensed Professional Engineer. During his career, he worked for the Veteran's Administration and as a contractor assigned to federal government projects.
Following his ROTC in college, Jim served as a commissioned officer in the Third Armored Division of the US Army and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. As a veteran, he continued to learn about and follow the military closely as a special interest. James was involved in road rally racing in the 1980s which led to his continued interest and enthusiasm for the sport especially in NASCAR and F1.
"Dad was a very loving, strengthening, and empowering person who doubled as a teacher, mentor, and best friend to anyone who would listen, but especially to me. He truly was the best father."
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his son Christopher James Curtis; two sisters Rosemary Tyskiewicz and her husband Andrew, and Patricia Curtis; nephew Michael Tyskiewicz, his wife Adrianna, and two great-nephews, Ryan and John Tyskiewicz; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, Maryland on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the PAN Foundation which helps those suffering with chronic or serious illness, https://www.panfoundation.org/.
