Jane was raised in Hagerstown, Maryland, the older of two daughters born to Jeannette K. and Howard Byler. She attended classes at the University of Maryland where she met the love of her life, Michael Stroot. They were wed in 1967 and shortly thereafter moved to Kensington. While Jane did not work outside the home (although she did love her time volunteering at the Lemon Twist in Chevy Chase) that is not to say she did not work. She ran a tight ship at home while she and Mike lovingly raised and guided into adulthood four children, including during a three-year sojourn in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Jane loved to socialize and was an accomplished bridge player. For many years she was a fixture at Cedarbrook Swim Club and treasured the annual family trip to Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Jane was predeceased by her beloved Mike in 2021. She is survived by her children Thomas (Mary) Stroot, Laura (James) Richardell, Andrew Stroot, and Matthew (Lesley) Stroot. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, her sister, and many nieces and nephews.
