
Janice was born to Paul and Hilma Johnson on October 16th, 1927 in Muskegon, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul, Wendell and sister Shirley.
Janice graduated from Smith College in Massachusetts and began a lifelong career of and love for teaching.
On June 27th, 1953 Janice married Martin Moon Jr. and spent the next 61 years lovingly married until his death in October 2014. She was the cherished mother to Catherine, Marti (Tim), Peter (Lynn) and Paula. The adored grandmother to Peter (Meredith), Emma, Sam, Daniel, Lauren (Seth), Greg (Samantha), Rebecca (Tom), Kristin (James), Rachael (Graham), Nathan (Allie), Alex, Hannah, Isabel and great grandmother to Lily, Emmy, Charlie, Teddy and Ellie.
An ever faithful servant, Janice attended church, sang in the choir for 50 years, was a member of UMW for 60 years ans a Stephens minister to many. She was a beloved member of Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville Maryland.
Janice's passion for teaching and helping others continued after her retirement from Kingsbury school. She volunteered at the Rockville Detention Center where she taught inmates how to read and allowed them to find life after prison.
Janice was a member of PEO for 64 years where she worked to help women's paths towards education. Janice's other passions were her family, friends and her beloved Lake Michigan. Every free moment of hers was spent cooking, sewing, knitting, entertaining and spending time with dear friends. All of these she did for others.
Janice passed away as she had lived, with an unfaltering optimism, a thirst for conversation, an unwavering faith in God, an unconditional love for her family and friends and a beautiful twinkle in her eye. She will be forever missed but will forever live in each of us through beautiful memories and love.
Services for Janice will be Friday, February 7th, 2:00pm at the Asbury Chapel in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
