

John Michael (Mike) Bell, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away at home on Saturday, December 19, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband of Margaret C. Bell (nee Slattery); devoted son of Norma Bell Valldejuli (nee Yoxen) and the late Mack Bell; Stepson of Kenneth Valldejuli; loving brother of Karen (Bell) Evans and Andrew Bell; predeceased by sister Deborah (Bell) Farr. Also survived by his Mother-in-Law Peggy Slattery, father-in-law John Slattery, sisters-in-law Laura Samford and Julie McInerney, and brothers in law Frank Evans, Chris Samford and John McInerney. He was a wonderful uncle to 12 nieces and nephews. He recently also became a Great Uncle for two great-nephews.
Mike was born on May 21, 1958 and grew up in Bethesda, MD. He attended Churchill High School and learned the lawncare trade at Lawn Pro where he became the Manager of Field Crew for DC, MD and N.VA. He opened his own lawncare and sprinkler company, Nitro Lawn, Inc. in 1987 and became a home owner in Gaithersburg, MD that same year. Mike was sole proprietor and President/ CEO for over 30 years. The sprinkler side of the business expanded to Weather-Rain, Inc., owned by Mike’s brother, Andrew Bell. Mike made many lifelong friends throughout his career, and was beloved by his loyal customers and neighbors for his professional excellence and his friendly, warm demeanor.
Mike loved all types of music, classic movies and TV, history, coin collecting, Washington Redskins football (now known as Washington Football Team) and his many golden retrievers. He spent several birthdays on the Chesapeake Bay fishing with close friends and family. He particularly enjoyed being outdoors and cultivating beautiful lawns, including his own.
Due to current COVID restrictions, there will be no public viewing or service. The family will hold a private graveside service and interment at All Souls Cemetery, Germantown MD. A Celebration of Life is tentatively planned for May 22, 2021, more details to follow.
