John Joseph McCarthy

On Monday February 28, 2022 John “Jack” McCarthy of Rockville, MD. Beloved husband of 66 Years to Mary Peyton McCarthy; loving father of Patty Esch (Victor), Sharon McCarthy, John McCarthy (Jessie), Colleen Wasilko (Steve) and Karen Puig; brother of the late Robert McCarthy. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, Michael Shaeffer, Catherine (Katie) Shaeffer, MD, Victor Esch, Patrick Esch, Brendan Esch, Stephen Wasilko, Catherine Wasilko, Mary Beth Puig, Megan Puig and 4 great-grandchildren.

He attended Georgetown University Class of 1951 where he was nationally ranked in tennis. He was later inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in its founding year. He graduated from Georgetown Law in 1954, earned an LLM in 1955, and a Master of Arts in Economics in 1961. He was a litigator for the U.S Department of Justice in a career that spanned 42 years and took him around the world.

Friends may call at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD 20854 on Monday March 7, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 PM. Interment: All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, MD.
