Jack was born in Syracuse, New York to John A. Waters, Sr and Alice Koppel Waters on September 11, 1926. He grew up in Syracuse and attended Syracuse University which he cheered for all his life. Just before his senior year he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Germany for post-war peacekeeping duties.
After his service, Jack finished his Electrical Engineering degree and joined IBM in Syracuse. From there he transferred to Washington, DC and after a bit changed jobs to serve as a civilian electrical engineer at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory (now the Naval Surface Warfare Center) where he worked until retirement. Even after retirement, he started working again for a contracting company at the same desk where he'd worked earlier.
Jack was an avid golfer, bowler and bridge player and always kept his grass green (except his zoysia grass, but that's a different story). He was a longtime member of Redland Baptist Church and a charter member of the Montgomery Central Lions Club (from 1970 until his death). He enjoyed serving in many different positions in the club including President and Treasurer.
Jack was the loving husband of the late Jean P. Waters who preceded him in death in 1997; loving father of Thomas A. Waters (wife Betsy), Virginia Patterson (husband Marty) and Janet Waters (husband Tim McCoig). Jack is also survived by four grandchildren Kell Brie Panjeshahi, Timothy Waters, Elyse Waters-Brown (husband Carl) and Jake Patterson as well as two great-grandchildren Aubrie Panjehshahi and Carl Brown V.
Jack passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning January 8th.
