He is survived by his wife, Monica, of 32 years, and daughter Melanie. He is also survived by his brother Curtis, sister Rita Conaway, plus nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, longtime and newer friends, and his loyal beagle Hunter.
Wayne was born October 1, 1952, to Leonard and Angela Flippin. He grew up in Michigan, California, Utah and Pennsylvania, and he later moved to New Jersey and Maryland.
He developed a love of flying after his father owned a small plane. As a teen, he joined the Civil Air Patrol. He took flying lessons into adulthood. He enjoyed watching the planes take off and land while dining at the Montgomery County Airpark, and he had an interest in military aviation history as well and the NASA space program.
Years ago, Wayne surprised his wife with a hot air balloon ride. He drew the line at any suggestion of skydiving, however, reasoning “why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?”
His passion for science and electronics led him to a lengthy career in computer technology.
As a loving dad, Wayne taught his daughter to ride a bike and later rode with her as she put in the many driving hours needed to get her license. They shared a love of art and country music. He cheered her on in sports of all kinds, most notably ice hockey. He was enormously proud of her.
He enjoyed traveling and photography, and often combined the passions by taking beautiful photos of landscapes, flowers and wildlife.
He will be deeply missed.
