

He was the beloved husband of Katherine McKee; proud father of Thomas McKee, Joseph McKee, James McKee, and Jacqueline McKee Zeranski; grandfather of seven - Ryder McKee, William McKee, Zachary Zeranski, Jacob Zeranski, Shannon McKee, Devin McKee, and Cecilia Zeranski; great-grandfather to three.
Dick was born in Lansing, Michigan, he is proceeded in death by his parents Thomas and Cecilia McKee and three siblings—Frank, Cecilia, and Alice.
He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Physics and later earned a Master’s degree in Operations Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. Dick was commissioned in the United States Navy through Officer Candidate School, launching a distinguished career of service. He retired from the United States Naval Reserves.
Following his military service, he worked as an engineer specializing in sonar technology, applying his scientific expertise to advance naval capabilities.
Dick married the love of his life, Katherine Wood, and they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Dick and Kathy spent many hours on the water. Dick was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he enjoyed both the camaraderie and the opportunity to serve. He was an avid reader of spy novels and enjoyed music and dancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6701 Muncaster Mill Road, Derwood MD. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Road, Germantown, MD.
The family will host a Celebration of Life Luncheon following the services, details to be provided at service.
