Rupert "Rupe" Brady

Rupert (“Rupe”) Brady passed away on September 19, 2025. While a sophomore in college at Catholic University, Rupe met Maureen (“Reenie”) MacIntosh whom he had seen from time to time at church and other social gatherings. It wasn’t long before Rupe knew “she was the one.” Rupe and Reenie married in 1954 and were married for 65 years until she passed in 2019. Together, they were the parents to Rupert Brady, Jr; Laureen Zegowitz (Steve); Kevin Brady (Patty); Jeanine Patrice Brady (deceased at birth); Warren Brady (Diane); Jeanine Hartnett (Mike); Jacqueline Rada (Dave); Brian Brady (Kelly); and Barton Brady (Lynne). They have 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Rupe is also survived by his sister, Therese Brady Donohue.

Rupe, a proud fourth generation Washingtonian, was born to John B. Brady and Mary Rupert Brady. Rupe graduated from Georgetown Prep and continued his education at Catholic University where he received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and Georgetown University where he received his JD.

Rupe was a retired lawyer with more than 40 years of professional experience specializing in international patents and trademarks. He began his career as an electrical engineer for Sperry Gyroscope in New York where he became a technical representative to the Strategic Air Commands 320th Bomb Wing for the first swept-winged jet bombers. Later, he was a participant in Operation Redwing, the 1956 atomic tests in Hawaii, Palmyra and Midway Islands.

Rupe combined his engineering knowledge with Law and in 1959 was admitted to practice as an attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In 1963, he founded the law firm of Brady, O'Boyle & Gates with his engineering classmates from Catholic University and fellow patent attorneys. In the 1970s, Rupe appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court as co-counsel in a successful patent case against the Commissioner of Patents.

Rupe and Reenie were founding members of St. Bartholomew parish in Bethesda and in 2014 received the “Manifesting the Kingdom” Award from the Archdiocese of Washington, DC at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Friends may call at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 6900 River Road, Bethesda, MD on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 2 PM.
