

Russell E. Weber, 101, LTC.,U.S. Army (Ret.) Born July 6,1920 in Buffalo, Ny. Graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in accounting. He entered the U.S. Army attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a 2nd LT in 1943. He served in the Field Artillery and Corp of Engineers prior to being assigned to "The Manhattan Project" at Oak Ridge, TN. Discharged from active duty in 1946, he would remain in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1980 when he retired with the rank of LT Colonel. He earned a Master's Degree in Business Management from New Mexico University and later earned his CPA designation. Russ worked briefly for Price Waterhouse accounting and served as the Comptroller of National Junior Chamber of Commerce in Tulsa, OK.
In 1951 Russ began what would become his life's work. He joined the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, NM in the field of nuclear material management. In 1952 he was transferred to the Atomic Energy Commission field office in Albuquerque, NM. In 1963 Russ was assigned to the Headquarters, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Division of Nuclear Materials Management in Rockville, MD. Russ would live in the Rockville/Gaithersburg MD area for the rest of his life. After he retired from Government service in 1979, he helped form and was involved with several companies which acted as consultants to both Government and Industry in the field of nuclear materials management.
Russ was a prolific reader and an avid outdoorsman. He rode, rafted and especially hiked around the country. He hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. Later he and his wife Phyllis volunteered to help maintain the Trail and to work in the Trail office in Harper's Ferry, VA.
Russ was a lifelong stamp collector. He was resident of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD for the last thirty years of his life. While there he organized and ran a stamp collection/recycling charity fund to assist residents in need. he also continued to follow and root for the Oklahoma Sooners athletic teams.
Russ was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis F. Weber, his daughter, Jeanne K. Weber and his brother Warren Weber. He is survived by his beloved companion, Mary Waldron, stepchildren Phyllis V. Bain, Paul F. Vissman (Patricia), Mark R. Vissman (Dorothy), and by many step grandchildren and great grandchildren and by cousins Joann Vorih and June Stillman.
There will be a graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
