Sonia R. Ledesma

Mrs Sonia R. Ledesma, 94, of Kensington Park in Maryland, formerly of Gaithersburg and Potomac, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was born in New York City on February 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Florencio Ruiz and Lucila Vega Ruiz. She was an accomplished classical pianist. She grew up in Brooklyn, and attended Brooklyn College, earning her BA and MA in languages and education. She went on to a career as an educator in languages, teaching both foreign languages and English to speakers of other languages.

She married Richard Ledesma on June 26, 1954, and they settled on Long Island, before moving to Montgomery County, MD in late 1969. She enjoyed music, movies, baseball, and spending time with her family and many friends. She also had a lifelong love of animals, and volunteered at area animal shelters. She is survived by her brother Hugo, and her two daughters Lorrie and Sue, as well as Sue’s husband and son Jeff.

She will be interred beside her beloved late husband in a simple graveside ceremony at Parklawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
