Mr. Theodore Carl Carroll, 70 of Montgomery Village, MD passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Mercie Carroll; loving father of Tammy Carroll; son of the late Bernard and Edna Ridgell Carroll; brother of the late Philip Carroll and wife Gay, Jeanette Kepner and husband Tom, Leo Carroll and his late wife Brenda, the late Larry Carroll and wife Carol, the late Ada Spelz, John Carroll and wife Debbie, the late Alan Carroll, the late David Carroll, Teresa Burke and husband David, the late George Carroll, and Marjorie Carroll, twin brother to Timothy Carroll and wife Joyce, Marian Trossback and her late husband David and Walter Carroll and wife Wendy. Mr. Carroll is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Known by Ted to friends or Teddy to family, he was a quiet and humble man who lived his life with devotion to his faith, family, and friends. As he said, “Growing up, if the church doors were open, we were there” referring to services and service projects. That seed for love of the church and serving others was planted early and certainly took root. Before his illness left him unable to do so, he participated wholeheartedly in church services and activities and found ways to pitch in… from watching babies to fixing electronic equipment. This extended well beyond the walls of the church; friends and family knew that if he was able to help, he would. He would regularly fix broken lamps, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, dishwashers, refrigerator, and ice machines… All free of charge except for the cost of the broken part. He also valued family and looked forward to time spent with his parents, siblings, and their families. He loved his wife and daughter, and when his wife became ill he altered his life to fill the needs so that he and his daughter, Tammy, could care for her at home until her passing and Tammy could remain in college.
He enjoyed visiting amusement parks, reading, watching movies, listening to music, and all things Christmas. Vacations would typically find him at Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens with an occasional Disney trip thrown in. He had an extensive movie collection; it is not always easy to define what kind of movie he liked— the grading scale just seem to be in his head. He could often be found laying perfectly still on the couch, listening to music. He wasn’t asleep, but you only knew that since his eyes would open if he sensed you there. He loved Christmas and every vacation included visits to a local Christmas shop. He would have listened to Christmas music and watched Christmas movies year-round if his daughter had an implement of the “not before October 21st” rule after she became an adult. (When she was growing up, the house rule was you could only watch Christmas movies if sick or starting sometime in November through January). But would occasionally be caught sneaking in some Christmas music and movies early.
The last 12 years saw him cutting back and increasing ways, but he remained grateful for whatever he was able to do and enjoy; be that old television shows, or milkshakes. After he was no longer able to walk, he would always say something to the effect of “I’m not in anypain or discomfort, I’m doing well.“ And either “God is good“ or “God is faithful“. He was deeply loved, and will be deeply missed.
Friends may call at Covenant Life Church, 7501 Muncaster Mill Road, Derwood, MD on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM with a service to follow. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, MD.
