With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Umilta Julia Headley, lovingly known to her family as Mummy and affectionately called Grandmom by her grandchildren. She was a woman of grace, strength, faith, and remarkable dedication to her family. Her life was centered around love, tradition, and creating a home filled with warmth, beauty and discipline.
She was born in Trinidad to the late Ernest Albert Rimple and Jemima Bynoe Rimple into a large family of ten siblings and shared lifelong bonds with her brothers and sisters, including Hubert McDonald, Allan, Minerva, Randolph, Knolly, Stephen, Lillian, Clyde, and is survived by her younger sister, Thursa, and her brother, Kennedy.
A woman of deep faith, she loved attending church, participating in church activities, and was a devoted member of the Mothers' Union. Family was at the center of everything she did, and Sunday lunch at her table became a treasured tradition.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 67 years, Vernon Lloyd Headley, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and countless loved ones whose lives she touched.
Her legacy lives on in the lessons she taught, the traditions she created, the meals she prepared, the songs she sang, and the love she poured into every corner of her home and family.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.
A visitation will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
