Born on March 10, 1953, in Pennsylvania, Bill lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and deep appreciation for the outdoors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in construction management from Virginia Tech, where he developed the foundation for his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic.
In 1979, Bill moved to Washington Grove, Maryland, where he built a life centered on craftsmanship and family alongside his first wife, Mary Murray and his first son Skylar. He founded Saar Construction Company, earning a reputation for integrity, skill, creativity, and pride in his work. One of his most meaningful accomplishments was building his own home on Grove Avenue, which became a gathering place filled with years of family memories. In 1994, he married Ramona Saar, and together they welcomed three sons: William, Logan, and Spencer.
Bill found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved golfing, swimming, exercising, listening to classic rock and alternative music, and spending time in nature—especially camping. He had a special fondness for his cats, Chloe, Simon, and Snotty. Above all, Bill cherished time with his four sons, who were the center of his life. A lifelong learner, he continually sought to grow—teaching himself web design, taking classes at Montgomery College, and even learning to play the drums. He was also a meticulous note taker, carefully chronicling much of his adult life—a reflection of his curiosity, discipline, and thoughtful nature.
He is survived by his sons: Skylar Saar and his wife, Sarah Saar, along with their daughter, Everly Saar; William Saar and his wife, Haley Saar; Logan Saar; and Spencer Saar. He is also survived by his former wives, Mary Murray and Ramona Saar; his sister, Gretchen Triantos and her husband, Vasili; and his brother, Doug Saar.
Bill will be remembered for his steady presence, strong hands, generous heart, and the enduring legacy he built—both in the structures he created and in the family he loved so deeply.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
