

James Benjamin Newman, 73, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 5, 2014. He was born on July 30, 1941, to Willis Grady Newman and Frocene McElveen Newman in Savannah, GA.
Jimmy graduated from Groves High School in 1960. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1959 until his Honorable Discharge in June, 1967, with rank of Sergeant (E-5). He attended Armstrong Junior College and graduated Berry College in December, 1966, with a BS in Business and Accounting. He worked for ADT alarm company of Savannah to pay for his education. He worked for General Adjustment Bureau as insurance claims adjuster before establishing his own independent claims adjusting company, Georgia Claims Adjusters. He graduated from John Marshall University Law School in Savannah with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in June, 1973.
Jimmy was the charter boat captain of the Adventurer III for many years in Savannah. He was awarded the title of Ambassador for the World Fishing Network, WFN, in May, 2010. Captain Jimmy Newman will live on through his fishing stories, photos, videos, and boat building techniques which he shared as the saltwaternecker on You Tube.
Jimmy was a Life Member of the Marine Corps League. He was a member of the Plum's Breakfast Club in Richmond Hill. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Richmond Hill. He was an avid fan of Georgia Tech football.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley Eileen Wages Newman, whom he married on December 17, 1966; his two daughters, Kimberly Eileen Newman of Louisville, CO, and Pamela Yvonne Newman of Richmond Hill; his sister Brenda Newman Salter (Alton) of Townsend, GA; grandson, Ajay Pandey of Louisville, CO; niece Sheri Lilley (Tim) of Savannah; nephew Scott Salter (JoAnn) of Savannah; grandnieces Megan and Madison Salter; grandnephew Patrick Daughterty; and many cousins.
Visitation will be at Fairhaven Funeral Home in Garden City on Sunday, December 7, from 6PM to 8PM. Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Monday, December 8 in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be at Lawrence Baptist Church, 1521 Jones Rd., Pembroke, GA.
