George Castro is known for his years of work in the community as a photographer. His business, Castro Studios, has been a part of the City of Gardena since the 1960s, and he has been the official City of Carson photographer for over two decades. Through his photographs, he captured history from historical events to capturing politicians and celebrities. He has also captured countless family histories, not just his own family, but has been able to capture memories of hundreds of families, through portraits and celebrations. Outside of his photography work, he has been a member of various clubs and commissions throughout the South Bay.
George's work was not a solo adventure, it has been family-focused. From practicing photographing with his wife Edyth to capture the perfect shot, to having his daughter Barbara help run the business. Everyone in the family has been a part of Castro Studios in one form or another, taking photos, working in the dark room, driving routes to drop off at different labs, or helping at events. Photography has shaped the family and has helped to shape George's success. And he has a large family. George has five daughters Cheri, Toni, Christina, Theresa, and Barbara. He has 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
George is reunited in heaven with his wife Edyth, daughter Barbara, grandsons Billy and Darin, and siblings Herminia and Ezequiel. He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers to further honor George, the family is asking to donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
