Alice Pigg Schmidt

Alice was born on November 19, 1938, in McPherson, Kansas to the late William Madison Pigg and the late Lela Dana Sherrill. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester (Les) Leon Schmidt, who passed away in 2017; as well as her three sisters, Francis Brown, Sally Knapp, and Dona Dannelley.

Alice graduated from high school in 1956. After high school she went to Weaver Airline School and became a customer service agent in Huntsville, Alabama. She met and married her late husband in 1958, and they had three sons, Mitch, Scott, and Andrew. While in Huntsville, AL she became employed with NASA at the George C. Marshell Space Flight Center. She and her family moved from Alabama to Virginia to Florida then Maryland, and finally moved and settled in Gastonia, North Carolina. She then became a Realtor Broker and was named President of the Board of Realtors in 1991 and Realtor of the year in 1992 and finally retiring from Real Estate in 2000.

Alice was an active member in her church- Christ Church -and served in many positions. She was awarded Laity of the year along with her husband in 2009. They both delivered Meals-On-Wheels for 10 years and did extensive traveling. Alice also thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the retired Airlines team and making memories with the Gourmet Club.

She is survived by her sons, Mitch Schmidt (LuAnne), Scott Schmidt (Wendy), and Andy Schmidt (Nichole); grandchildren, Alex Schmidt, Lauren Ridenour (Billy), Dr. Jarrett Schmidt, John Michael Schmidt (Hannah), Viginia Schmidt and Noah Schmidt; four great grandchildren; cherished nieces and nephews; as well as her brother-in-law, Jess Schmidt (June).

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 1:30 PM- 2:45 PM at Christ Church 3415 Union Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056. The Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 3:00 PM officiated by Rev. Burt Williams
