Bobbie Jeanne Duncan Ledbetter, 92, of Birmingham Alabama, passed away Thursday, December 19th 2019. She was born in Hickory, North Carolina on June 17, 1927 to Darlin David Duncan and Eva Lail Duncan. Bobbie graduated from Beaufort High School in Beaufort North Carolina and received a degree in Home Economics from The Women’s College of the University of North Carolina. She married Allen Thurman Ledbetter, Jr. in June of 1951 and they shared their life together for 47 years until his death in August 1998. Bobbie spent her early years teaching elementary school in North Carolina, then later moved to Atlanta, Ga, where they were blessed with the birth of their two sons, Scott and Dean, and settled in Birmingham, Alabama as her husband’s business grew and prospered. Bobbie had a keen interest in architecture and her design ideas were integral in the building of the two homes she occupied during her life here in Birmingham. She enjoyed cooking and always wanted family to “stay for dinner” no matter the time of day. She will be fondly remembered for always having an unfinished jigsaw puzzle as a work in progress, urging visitors to work on it if they were led to do so. Bobbie’s pride and joy were her family, especially her three grandchildren, Talia, Nathan and Cassie, evidenced in the way her face and eyes would light up whenever they were in her presence.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Allen Ledbetter (Nancy), Dean David Ledbetter (Rebecca), and her grandchildren, Talia Ledbetter Rothwell (Jerry), Nathan Ledbetter and Cassie Ledbetter.
There will be a graveside service at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, North Carolina at 11 am on Saturday, December 26.
A visitation and memorial service will be held at Shades Valley Community Church in Homewood, Alabama at 11 am on Saturday, January 4, with visitation with the family at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to Shades Valley Community Church or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
