Boyd Gene Smith of Gastonia, NC passed away unexpectedly at the age of 78 on December 13, 2021 at his home. Born March 28, 1943 in York, SC and was the son of the late Benjamin L. Smith and Violet Q. Smith.
Boyd was a resident of Gaston County since 1984, a graduate from York High School and a Cum Laude graduate of the University of South Carolina. Boyd proudly served in the Marine Corps and never tired from sharing his experiences. He became a certified financial planner and financial advisor in 1984 and started his own company in 1998, Boyd Smith & Company, and retired in February 2014. Boyd had also served the community and was on the board of the Gastonia Noon Lions Club and Rotary Club of Gastonia NC. He gave his life to Christ in 1980 and we know that he is now healed and restored with no pain walking with our Lord and Savior.
His grandchildren and great-granddaughter were his life and not a day went by without him talking about how much he loved and adored them. Prior to his back surgery he was an avid golfer and loved watching football and researching and trying to predict the stock markets.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 yrs, Linda P. Smith and 2 children: Son Michael “Bodie” Smith (Traci), and daughter Lindsey Dudley, Grandchildren: Hannah S. Biles, Parker Sansbury, Garren Sansbury, Avery Smith and Kace Dudley. Great-granddaughter: Brinkley Biles. He is also survived by his siblings: Charles “Gerry” Smith, Benjamin “Doyle” Smith, Robert Smith and Sylvia Craig. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A visitation is scheduled for 1:00pm-3:00pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Carothers Funeral Home At Gaston Memorial Park.
