Derrick was a man of deep curiosity, quiet intellect, and a gentle heart. A devoted history buff and voracious reader, Derrick found joy in learning and exploring worlds both real and imagined. He especially loved fantasy television and films, with Game of Thrones holding a special place as his favorite.
Beyond books and screens, Derrick’s greatest joy was found in simple moments- particularly spending time with his beloved rescue dog, Luna, who rarely left his side. Their bond reflected Derrick’s kindness, loyalty, and capacity for love.
Derrick was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Manigault, whose memory he carried with him always.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of almost two years, Rebecca Insley of Gastonia; his grandfather, Samuel Manigault of New York; cherished aunties Rosalyn Manigault and Madelyn Castillo, both of Charlotte; Gail Manigault of Shelby; and a bonus auntie and special friend, Carolyn Williams of Florida. He is also survived by many cousins, including two beloved cousins whom he regarded as siblings, Leonard Manigault and Alexis White of New York.
Derrick will be remembered for his thoughtful spirit, his quiet strength, his love of stories and knowledge, and the way he made those around him feel seen and valued. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held privately . The family appreciates your understanding.
