

A beloved family man who had a special obsession as a train enthusiasts’ best describes Donald Clinton Howe, 77 who passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017. He was born October 15, 1939 in Gaston County to the late Conley and Pauline (Smith) Howe. Donald grew up in Gastonia and early in life served his country honorably in the National Guard. He later became a Chapel Grove volunteer fire fighter and also a member of the Optimist Club where he served as State Treasurer for a short time. He had several hobbies which included photography, oil painting, riding motorcycles, horseback riding and being on a bowling league. None compared to his love for his family especially his children and grandchildren.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 57 years, Patsy Howe of Gastonia, NC; three children, Scott Howe of Mt. Holly, Donna Thompson and husband, Jeff of Dallas, NC and Lane Rowland and husband, Mike of Gastonia; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson.
Donald was preceded in death by three brothers, Conley Howe Jr., Robert S. Howe and J.D. Howe.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 PM at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. Entombment will follow in Mausoleum D at Gaston Memorial Park. Pastor Art Randall will preside.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-3:30 PM prior to the service.
