Frances Elizabeth (Henderson) Newell

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth (Henderson) Newell, age 86, passed away on December 22, 2020. Born April 15, 1934 in Knoxville, TN, Frances was the daughter of the late B. Floyd and Ruth Henderson, and grew up in Cramerton, NC.

Graduating from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, Frances had a varied and interesting nursing career across the southeast, including work as a surgical nurse at Emory Hospital. She retired as a corporate nurse with Duke Power Corporation in 1994.

Along with her family, Frances’ great loves in life included cooking, spending time on the computer, traveling and her Boston Terrier “babies”, including Missy who was a constant companion to Frances in her later years.

In addition to her sister, Joyce Summey (Troy) of Roswell, GA and her brother, Floyd Henderson of Stanley, NC, Frances is survived by her nieces and nephews Lee Summey (Kay) of Marietta, GA, Nancy Cozart (Art) of Stanley, NC, Susan Kinsey (Nick) of Raleigh, NC, Patty Stamey (Mark) of Anderson, SC and Tom Henderson (Candice) of Kernersville, NC and their children and grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 1:30 pm at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, NC, with Rev. Noel Sweezy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Clemson Downs Health Care Center for the loving care and support (and fun!) that they provided to Frances and her family while she was there.
