James Marshall Gantt Jr., 91, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully at home on Friday July 6, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. James was a Southern Baptist minister who loved his earthly family and his church family. James graduated from Gardner Webb University, Louisiana College, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. James love to build things – even building his own house when he was 75 years old. James served churches in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
James is the son of the late Margaret (Alexander) Gantt and James Marshall Gantt, Sr. James was one of five children. All his brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.
Those left to cherish James’ memory are his wife of 32 years, Jeannette (Plummer) Gantt, his daughter Karen (Gantt) Mc Cranie and her husband Steve of Gastonia, and sons Gary Gantt and wife Pam of Glennville, Georgia and Alex Gantt and wife Christina of Waxhaw, North Carolina. James leaves behind step-sons Bert Davis and his wife Melanie of Richmond Hill, Georgia and Billy Davis of Richmond Hill, Georgia. Missing their grandfather are grandchildren Ryann Gantt, Shay Gantt, Christa Arant, Morgan Dean and husband Brian, Lindsay Henderson and husband Seth, Justus Mc Cranie and wife Stephanie and Haley Pendergrass and husband Levi. James was expecting another grandchild in January, 2019. James also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren.
A Life Well Celebrated Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday ~ July 9, 2018 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. prior to the service.
Leading in worship and giving support to family and friends who gather to remember James are his son in law, Steve Mc Cranie from The Church Without Walls in Gastonia, his nephew, Michael Gantt of Agape Christian Fellowship in Vermont and Lincoln County Hospice Chaplin Walt Windley.
Active pallbearer’s are Justus Mc Cranie, Seth Henderson, Levi Pendergrass, Justin Griffith, Philip Ford and Gene Monroe.
Committal with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Navy will follow at Mausoleum D at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia.
