Joyce B Carpenter

Joyce B. Carpenter, 82, of York SC, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 6, 1943, Joyce lived a life marked by love, kindness, curiosity, and service to others.

She graduated from Ashley High School and went on to earn an associate degree in business from Kings College. On April 13, 1963, Joyce married the love of her life, David N. Carpenter, beginning a marriage of more than 62 years filled with devotion, laughter, and deep companionship.

Joyce dedicated her career to public service as the Clerk of Court – Probate for the State of North Carolina. She was known for her integrity, patience, and commitment to helping others during some of life’s most important moments.

Gifted with a creative spirit, Joyce found joy in sewing, cooking, and square dancing. She loved ringing handbells at church and was always eager to try new things. Travel was one of her greatest pleasures, and Butchart Gardens in Vancouver held a special place in her heart for its beauty and tranquility.

Above all, Joyce treasured her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, David Carpenter; her children, Russ Carpenter (Laurie) and Melissa Ferguson (James); her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Carpenter (Abby), Cameron Carpenter, Kalyn Carpenter, Autumn Ferguson, and Clay Ferguson; and her brother, Walter D. Belton III. Each of them carries forward her warmth, wisdom, and love.

Joyce’s gentle spirit, adventurous heart, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and grace.

A visitation will be held on December 6, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, located at 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC, 28054.

The funeral service will take place on the same day, December 6, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the same location.

A committal service will follow from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park.
