KO was born to Nkoyo Offong and Okon Isangedighi in Oron, Nigeria. In his youth, KO was a leader, scholar and athlete. He was the school prefect at Akai Owu Methodist school, sang baritone in the local choir and exceled in soccer, long and high jump. He became the school captain in his final year in Methodist Boys’ High School. He was a captain like no other; well-liked and respected by both staff and students. He was simply known by 2 letters, KO. The name KO became synonymous with long distance running, leaving his competition in the dust.
KO immigrated to the United States on June 26, 1976 to attend North Carolina A & T State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, he worked as an engineer for Siemens, General Electric and ultimately retired from Tyco Electronics. As an industrious man of influence, KO refused to allow retirement to slow him down. Instead, he started a medical supply company and dedicated himself to helping others live a healthy life. KO was easy-going and a joy to be around. He was well-respected and liked by his community. To know him is to know his infectious warm smile.
KO married Vicki Denise Wright on February 13, 1982. Together, they raised their two daughters, Ini Niekung and Eka Dorothy. KO was a devoted father that consistently put time in educating and providing for his children. KO was immeasurably proud of his children. His intellect and kind-heartedness was so contagious that many other children fondly referred to KO as Pop.
KO was preceded in death by his parents, Nkoyo and Okon Isangedighi.
KO leaves as his legacy, his children Ini Niekung Kpoto Isangedighi (Demond) and Eka Dorothy Kpoto Isangedighi (Jurica). He also leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, Effiong Isangedighi and Offong Isangedighi as well as neices and nephews.
