

A native of Gaston County, he was born August 18, 1926, the son of the late William Clyde Mauney and Madeline Black Mauney.
Mr. Mauney was a graduate of Gastonia High School and Belmont Abbey College. He retired as an appeals hearing officer with the legal department after a 40 year career with the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Gastonia.
A WW II Navy veteran, he served in South Pacific and the Philippine Liberation. He was a member of American Legion Post 23 and the WW II Last Man Club of Gaston County and Honor Guard.
In his younger years, Mr. Mauney was an avid musician and played 1st trumpet with the Ray Demaris Orchestra during the Big Band Era.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Bennett Mauney of Gastonia; and daughter, Brenda Kaye Mauney of Fort Myers, Florida.
A funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia with Rev. C. B. Barr and Rev. Dr. James Westmoreland officiating.
Military rites will be provided by the WW II Last Man Club of Gaston County.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
