We are here to celebrate the life of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin, and friend Mary Lee Williams. Mary was born on September 6, 1948, in Palm Beach, Florida, to parents George and Leola Williams. Mary moved to Brooklyn, NY, as a young woman, where she raised her four children and built her life of public service to her community, which was her passion. Mary worked at St. Johns Hospital (later renamed Interfaith Medical Center) as a Ward Clerk and later as a WIC Clerk. This is where she took great pride in providing assistance for children and families in need. She also owned and operated a home daycare center. Mary Lee was a tireless advocate of the poor and the voiceless. She worked with Brooklyn’s political leaders and New York City Housing executives to improve the living conditions in city owned housing communities. Mary Lee worked tirelessly to secure resources for seniors, funding for community programs and improved police presence in her community as well as community outreach programs designed to ensure that we all had somewhere to turn and someone to look up to.
Mary Lee enjoyed dancing (more than most people). If you knew her, you absolutely knew of her love of dancing. Many have memories of her dancing with friends and family on the dance floor. Dancing brought her much joy
