Rod was born in Gaston County and was the son of the late James William and

Pauline Barnes Johnson.

Rod was owner of Elite Crete Southeast and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during

The Vietnam War. He will forever be remembered as a great husband, father and

grandfather.

He had a passion and love for fishing, spending time with grandkids, and his

beloved pug Gizmo. He enjoyed helping people and touched many lives.

Rod is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dickie Dianne Cloninger Johnson; son,

Jody Johnson and wife Linda of Gastonia; daughter, Heather Ruelle and husband

Robert of Fort Mill; four grandchildren, Taylor and Hunter Johnson, Kyra and Sam

Ruelle.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p. m. Wednesday at Carothers Funeral

Home, Gastonia.

A service celebrating the life of Mr. Johnson will be 5 p. m. Wednesday at the

Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

Interment will be private and at a later date.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy and Buddy

Johnson.
