Bobby was born on March 30, 1942, in Baytown, Texas, to Charles and Lois Owens, and grew up there before heading to Lamar University in Beaumont, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in General Business in 1966. The following year, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force on active duty in 1967 and serving with the Military Airlift Command, including a tour stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. He transitioned to the Air Force Reserve in 1972, where he served as Operations Officer with the 433rd Airlift Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, and continued to serve until his retirement in March 1992 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In 1981, Bobby married the love of his life, Mary Sue, and together they built a family and a home filled with warmth and laughter. He spent 22 years working for the City of Austin Health Department, where he served in a variety of roles including restaurant inspection and investigating water and air quality complaints, before retiring in 1996. He left behind a legacy of dedicated public service that helped keep his community safe and healthy.
In retirement, Bobby embraced the good life in Sun City. He had a passion for tennis and volleyball, and was a familiar face at the pool, where his easy company and good humor made him a friend to many. He also loved country and western dancing, and he and Mary Sue spent many happy years traveling the world together, with multiple trips to Hawaii and Mexico, as well as adventures in New Zealand and Australia.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Sue Owens; his son, Jason (Gaileon) Owens; his stepchildren, Laura Miesse and Bobby (Noel) Rosenberger; and grandchildren, Kat, Alex, and Dani Rosenberger, Hayley (Chynna) Moore, and Cody Miesse.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628, followed by a catered reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
