

Carol Gertrude Dean Jones, 87, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Scott and White Hospital, Round Rock, Texas. She was born on September 2, 1928, in Mariana, Florida, to the late Henry Corbett Dean and Mabel (Rountree) Dean.
Carol grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. She attended the Florida State demonstration school and Leon High School in Tallahassee where she graduated. Afterward she attended college at Florida State University in Tallahassee, at that time an all-women’s school, where she received a degree in Spanish and English. After graduating from FSU, Carol was among the first group of women to attend the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, receiving a Masters of Religious Education degree.
It was at Emory University that she met William Burwell Jones who was also attending seminary there. Carol and Bill married in 1952 in Tallahassee, Florida. They were happily married for 63 years.
Together, Carol and Bill Jones joined the Methodist mission team in Santiago, Chile, where they served for five years. They traveled throughout South America, developing a love of the people, land, and culture which they carried throughout their lives.
After returning to the United States, the couple moved to Nashville, Tennessee, Adams, Tennessee, Baldwin City, Kansas, and finally settled in Georgetown, Texas, where they lived for 51 years.
Carol was an accomplished painter and pianist as well as a devoted wife and mother. She assisted in many children’s activities, including Brownies and Girl Scouts where she taught arts and crafts.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband The Rev. Dr. William B. Jones and her parents H.C Dean and Mabel Dean.
Carol is survived by her brother Harry Corbett “Buddy” Dean (Carolyn) of Tallahassee, Florida, children Rebeca Lynn Jones of Georgetown, Debora Dawn Jones Acevedo (Feliciano) of Georgetown, Judith Carol Jones of Georgetown, Andrew Dean Jones (Kimberly) of Round Rock. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lauren Wylie (Mike), Robin Henderson (Bryan), Olivia Jones, Will Jones, Zuri Jones; and by great-grandchildren Donald Wylie, Davis Wylie, Weston Wylie, and Sarah Henderson.
A memorial service for Carol Jones will be held Friday, August 19, 2016, 2 p.m., at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, Georgetown, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels of Georgetown, Bluebonnet Community Services, and First United Methodist Church of Georgetown.
The family would like to thank the caregivers from Meme’s House of Georgetown and Fairway Vista Assisted Living of Round Rock for their loving care of Carol.
