

Carolyn Jean Buchhorn Schubert, 82, went to be with the Lord on March 9. She was Born April 1, 1939 in Walburg, Texas to Alvina (Miersch) and August Buchhorn. She married Ray Schubert at Zion Lutheran of Walburg in Nov. 1960.
Carolyn was a devout Lutheran and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed serving the Lord and was an active member at Zion Lutheran in Walburg where she received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage. A few of her favorite pastimes were square dancing and listening to polka with Ray, and spending time in the company of family and friends. She loved gardening, baking, reading, farming and ranching. She was known for her German noodles and peanut brittle.
Carolyn spent her early years working for Scottish Rite Dormitory. After marriage, she was a switch board operator at Cabiness Brown. She spent the majority of her career working in education at Zion Lutheran School as a teacher’s aide and bus driver and at Georgetown ISD as a Cafeteria Manager and teacher’s aide.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61years, Ray, who passed away in January; daughter Rebecca Brabandt; her parents; her in-laws Otto and Alma Schubert; her brother Harlan; brother in laws Herbert and Victor Schubert, Horace Farrack and Mike Marx; sister in law Alda Bess Schubert; and nephew Ronnie Schubert. She leaves behind, 2 children, John and Kim Schubert of Terrell and Scott and Tonya Schubert of Fedor; son in law, Johnny Brabandt of Georgetown; 7 grandchildren Ty Cheyenne, Shelbie, Cassidy, Stihl, Grainger, Jaeger, Sterling; great granddaughter MacKenzie; sister Fayrenne and Harlan Tonn of Jarrell; brother in law Martin and Julie Schubert of Fedo; sisters in law, Mary Schubert of Jarrell, Helen Marx of Taylor and Elvira Farrack of Giddings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carolyn’s visitation will be Monday, March 14th at Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg. A Memorial service will be at Tuesday March 15th at 10am at Zion. Meal and fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, can be made to the Braille fund at Zion or St. Judes in Carolyn’s name.
