Ed grew up in Texarkana with a brief period in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Following high school graduation from Arkansas High School, he attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, later completing his bachelor’s degree in business and economics at Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas. It was at SSC he met Judy Skinner, who would become his wife.
Ed and Judy began their life together in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Ed embarked on a 37-year career in retail management with J. C. Penney. Throughout his professional life, Ed embraced numerous opportunities and assignments, each of which took his family across several states. His career path led them from Arkansas to Texas, then to Oklahoma, and eventually brought them back to Texas. These moves not only marked significant milestones in Ed’s career but also allowed his family to experience new communities and build lasting friendships along the way.
Wherever Ed’s career took him, he made sure that his family joined and attended a Methodist church. He participated in committee and leadership roles and work/mission projects when he could. Family activities were plentiful, taking center stage for several years with early morning swim meets, basketball and baseball games, scouting and Indian Guide group activities. The whole family enjoyed attending games and cheering for the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Houston Oilers, Rockets, and Astros. It was non-negotiable every Labor Day weekend to travel to a family reunion at the annual Homecoming held at Hunters Chapel Methodist church near the community of Roe, Arkansas, a tradition rooted in Ed’s family history.
During his career, Ed was an active Rotarian, holding memberships in the Ponca City (OK), Cedar Park (TX), and Georgetown clubs. He was honored to serve on the board of directors for the Marland Mansion Foundation in Ponca City. He later chaired the Texas Retail Merchants Association board and represented JC Penney in various retail advocacy groups.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Campbell Trice and Edward Duke Trice, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy; their sons Brian and Jason (Lacey); three grandchildren: Justin, Jack, and Lila; two sisters: Ann Trice Johnson (Weldon) and Margaret
Trice; two brothers-in-law: Phil Skinner (Anna Margaret) and Michael Skinner; and a special group of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will be forever grateful to the dedicated caregivers at Georgetown Living who filled Ed’s last seventeen months with love, laughter, and care. Others to whom the family is indebted include the doctors and nurses who provided excellent care along the way, the Tranquility House hospice team, and all those who prayed, visited, or otherwise supported the family. Special personal thanks to Dr. Stewart, Dr. Williams and PT Garrett whose personal investments in Ed’s well-being were significant.
Those wishing to honor Ed’s life are invited to consider making a donation to the Georgetown First United Methodist Church of Georgetown in support of the ZOE project or Camp Sunshine, the Rotary Club of Georgetown, or another charity of their choice.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown at 1:00 PM followed by a reception.
A private interment with family and close friends will take place at a later date in Roe, Arkansas.
