Elva “Yvonne” Williamson Jones was a Texan through and through. She adored Yellow Roses, Bluebonnets, the rhythm of tennis matches, the spirit of University of Texas Football, and keeping meticulous score of her beloved Houston Astros—even at 95.
Yvonne passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, closing a remarkable life that began in Terrell, Texas on June 27, 1930. Born the second child of “Shorty” and Elva Williamson, she grew up on the campus of Texas Military College, where her family—and soon everyone else—lovingly called her “Sister.”
Yvonne lived with a quiet courage and an open heart. She was an energetic athlete—riding horses, swimming, and mastering her tennis game. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1950 as a proud Delta Gamma and soon moved to Houston, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Dan Jones. They eloped and built 69 beautiful years together, a partnership defined by laughter, friendship, and unwavering devotion.
Yvonne poured love into everything she touched. As a talented seamstress, she stitched dresses for her daughters that weren’t just clothing—they were keepsakes, woven with her patience and care. Her clear soprano voice filled sanctuaries for decades, from St. Philips Methodist to John Wesley Methodist, blessing congregations with her faith and joy.
Though rooted in Texas pride, Yvonne’s curiosity took her across the world. She visited nearly every state and traveled throughout Europe to be with children and grandchildren. She never missed a graduation—not one—and celebrated each accomplishment with genuine, overflowing pride.
When the first grandchild arrived, she declared with a smile that she was far too young to be called “Grandma.” Instead, she became “Chickie,” a name inspired by a child’s toy that stuck—and became legendary. When great grandchildren arrived, she embraced the title “Chickie Original.” She loved deeply and delighted in every milestone of her growing family.
Yvonne and Dan shared countless adventures together, including a trip to Ho Chi Minh City, where—well into their eighties—they wove through traffic with determination to meet family. Their sense of adventure never faded.
In 2017, they settled in Georgetown, Texas to be close to Davis, Amelia, and Fynner, becoming a constant and joyful presence in their grandchildren’s lives.
Yvonne is survived by her daughters Jenny Lennox and Patrice Briggs, and her son Davis Jones. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Dr. Amanda McCabe (Dan); Daniel Lennox Choate (Larry); Dr. Scott Briggs (Hillary); Mark Lennox (Jessica); Carley Wagner (Aaron); Amelia Jones; and Fynner Jones. She was preceded in death by her grandson Bobby Briggs. She leaves behind six great grandchildren, with a seventh on the way.
Yvonne lived her life with warmth, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the people she loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the traditions she passed down, and the joy she brought to every room she entered. She will forever be our Chickie—the original,
