Eugene Joseph Melancon, 77, passed away on January 3, 2018 at his home in Elgin, Texas. He was born on May 24, 1940 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Harry Peter and Julia (Grui) Melancon. On June 4, 1960, he married Mary Margaret Lee in St. Paul, Minnesota.
He worked for 3M for over 35 years in the electric products division. He had a talent and love for woodworking, which produced many fine pieces of furniture. He had a passion to fish and duck hunt. He loved to collect Lionel trains. In his later years, he developed a passion for genealogy. Gene made contact and had many long years of correspondence with relatives that he found through his research. In the last years he learned more about his faith through reading the bible, about church history and the saints. Gene was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas. Gene always made sure that his family was provided for and lent support and encouragement wherever he could.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jeannette Wostarek and husband David of Austin, Texas; son, Robert Melancon of Elgin, Texas; son, David Melancon and wife Angela of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua and wife Emma, Anne and Elizabeth Wostarek and Chloe Jo and Caitlyn Melancon; and great-grandson, James Wostarek. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Randal and Beverly Melancon of Gold Canyon, Arizona; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Hazel Lee of Oakdale, Minnesota and John and Nannette Lee of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
