Grover "Rex" Rockett received his eternal reward at the age of 81 on January 7, 2026. Born in Leicester, NC, on March 6, 1944, to parents James and Paris Rockett, where he was welcomed by a brother, Jimmy and later received a gift of a little sister, Patsy. Rex grew up roaming the mountains and playing ball. He was a "star" for North Buncombe where he graduated High School. His ambition was to go to college and major in physical education. Instead he found his way to Austin Bergstrom Air Force Base where he served overseas and later met the love of his life, Mary Jean Henry. They were married on September 4, 1965 and later blessed with 3 children, Pamela, Michelle and Michael.
Rex had a long career, retiring from IBM and then later Dell Computers and staying busy reading meters with Chisholm Trail Water and running hot shots. He was not afraid to work, but also enjoyed his vacations home to North Carolina to spend some time on the golf course with his brother and just enjoy his family and the mountains. Rex loved to play golf and spent alot of time at the Georgetown Country Club where he made a lifetime of life long friends. Also an avid hunter and fisherman, many memories were made with his children and grandchildren and more friends. His love of fishing took him up to Cedar Creek Lake where he and Mary Jean bought a little place and he proceeded to make lake records with his catfish. One of Pop's favorite things to do was to fry up some fish for family and friends. He had a large circle of friends who he loved like family.
Rex leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Mary Jean Rockett; children, Pamela (Jerry), Michelle (Craig) and Michael (Mary); 9 grandchildren, Chance, Landon (Bre), Holden, Maegan (Coltin), Haeley, Ryleigh, Cruz and Rex; 4 great-grandchildren, Bellamy, Evelyn, Hudson and Payten; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Van Sluder and numerous nieces and nephews in both Texas and North Carolina.
Preceded in death by his parents, James and Paris Rockett; in-laws, Les and Mary Henry; brother, Jimmy Rockett; brother-in-law, Jimmy Henry and sister-in-law, Geneva Lee.
We would like to extend our thanks to his pastor, Ricky Lindsey and his church family at Heritage Country Church. Pops loved the Lord, his family and friends. We invite friends and family to share stories and memories during a visitation on Monday, January 12th from 5pm to 7pm at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
