For those of you who were not able to attend the funeral service, I'd like to share what I said at the funeral.    I want to take a few moments to reflect on how much Harry meant to me personally and to my family.  -Harry entered my life when I was around 12 years old.  I remember the moment he showed up in his little red fiat for his first date with my mother because he was too scared to enter our home.  -He gave me my first real taxpaying job where he instilled in me great work ethics.   -Harry helped my mom buy her first house and even though I had to change schools in the middle of high school, it was a welcomed change for the better.   -He helped me get my first phone line after realizing how much a 16-year-old girl loves to talk on the phone.  - Also during my teen years, he took me to the dentist for the first time to fix my broken teeth.  - He helped me get ready for my first high school prom and to buy a car.  - He took us on many family trips to Mexico and Rockport.  - Because of these early memories and so much more, Harry and I were very close. He became my father in every sense of the word and I will always cherish him in my heart.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  - As my father, he helped with my wedding and gave me away to my husband, Alan.  - Throughout my marriage, Harry was always supportive of our military life and encouraged our travels.  -His encouragement also extended to our kids and his grandchildren when he opened mutual funds for their future education.  - When we were stationed in Germany, Harry bought Megan her first piano after she decided she wanted to take piano lessons.   - Harry loved to reminisce about his visits with Delores to us in Germany and especially for Hollys first birthday and visiting Alans grandparents in Amsterdam.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  Harry seemed to instantly become best friends with everyone he met. He had such an optimistic outlook on life that made him loved by many.   -In the later years of his life, he worked as a substitute teacher and volunteered at the nursing home where he passed. As a teacher, I was so proud of this and always loved to share his stories with my colleagues. He was described by many:   friends, neighbors, co-workers, patients, and the nurses who would ultimately take care of him, as their favorite.  I know we all agree that he is already everyones favorite in heaven.  May God bless Harry and keep him close in our hearts forever.

RIP Uncle Harry.    My deepest sympathy goes out to Dolores and all of your extended family. I am very happy that I got to visit with you recently and talk over old times. I remember looking forward to you visiting our family on weekends and occasionally going to places like The Texan to grab a bite. You have been a great uncle to me and I especially remember your guidance regarding my educational pursuits. I remember being at a crossroads at one point and was ready to drop out due to finances but you were there to help me. I did not get to be with you much as we both got older.   I have always been proud to be your nephew..

Letter to Uncle Harry    Our hearts go out to Dolores and all your loving children and grandchildren as well as those left behind  brother, nieces and nephews who must now bid you final farewell.    I know as I write, you are in loving arms and in communion with those who went before you  Your dad and mom  (my Granpa Napoleon and Granma Annie Herrera)  Your sister (my mom) Emma Beth Mier  your brothers  (my uncles) Lloyd Herrera and Rudy Herrera.    I can just imagine the reunion you are having now with Uncle Lloyd making barbecue  Uncle Rudy holding cigar in corner of his mouth --  Granpa and Granma and my Mom and Dad proudly smiling and hugging you.
