Helen was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July12, 1928; the daughter of John and Josephine Zirnsak. She grew up in Zelienople, PA and attended school in that area. Since they lived on a farm, she enjoyed working alongside her dad in the outdoors, and thus the birth of her passions for gardening, outdoor activities, riding and swimming. She also was a great cook and taught her children the art of entertaining and making company feel welcome. She was an excellent seamstress and provided many outfits as her children grew up.
Helen had a strong faith and was active in her local Lutheran church. She enjoyed serving and participated in ladies group activities once she retired from the High School Guidance Department of Richland Township (a suburb of Pittsburgh PA).
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, daughter, JoAnn, son- La Verne, siblings, Bill and Ann, and sister-in-law Marie.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Penny & Tom Cedel, daughter-in-law, Deb Garrard and son-in-law Jim Cedel. Grandchildren: David Cedel, Melanie & David Malak, Rebecca Cedel, Heather & Jason Ver Lee, Jeff Garrard, Danny & Christina Garrard, and Michelle Garrard. Great grandchildren: Jacob Cedel, Gavin, John & Josie Malak, Rigel Beasley, Matthew Ver Lee, Justice, Ethan & Nathan Garrard and Brandon, Sarah & Abby Garrard.
The family is planning a celebration of Helen’s life in Kentucky at the family cemetery. Time not yet determined.
The family wants to thank those at Elmcroft Memory Care Unit and Magnolia Hospice for the love and support they showed Helen and the family.
