Hershel Raymond Shepherd

Hershel R. Shepherd, age 76, passed away September 4, 2008 at his home in Georgetown. Hershel was born October 5, 1931 to William Thomas Shepherd and Mattie Copeland Shepherd in Liberty Hill. He grew up on farms in Liberty Hill and Weir, and attended Georgetown Schools. Hershel married Marjorie Jordan on January 28, 1950. They were married 51 years at the time of her death October 13, 2001. Hershel started his 39 year railroad career with MKT Katy Railroad in 1953. After 6 years with MKT he later became one of the first employees of Georgetown Railroad Co. where he stayed for 33 years, retiring in 1992. He will be fondly remembered for his love of fishing, the outdoors and perfecting his vegetable garden. Hershel was a member of Northside United Methodist church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Floyd, Claude, Fred, Charles and Kenneth Shepherd, sisters Emma Innmon and Wilma Owens. He is survived by children; Bill (Dale) Shepherd, Thelma (Bob) Lippold and Kathy (Randy) Underwood, grandchildren; Brandi (Jeff) Schwertner, Megan Shepherd, Janell Lippold, William Lippold, Colter (Heather) Underwood, Zach Underwood, great grandson, Weston Underwood, along with several nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, September 5, 2008 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 N. IH 35, Georgetown, Texas 78628 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral services celebrating Hershel’s life will be held at 11am September 6, 2008 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gordon Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Memorial Park, Pflugerville, TX.
