

James Dudley Eckert – born August 18, 1935 in Austin Texas and passed May 14, 2018. Dudley met wife Mary Kay while attending Lamar University in Beaumont. They were married on April 5, 1958 and moved to Austin in 1959 where they raised three children.Dudley lived most of his life in Austin and worked for Texaco Chemical Company for more than 30 years. In the early 70’s, the family moved from Austin to Round Rock. In 1983 Dudley and Mary Kay moved again to Weir to enjoy a more relaxed country lifestyle. After his retirement you could find him every morning at the Weir Country Store having coffee with his friends, tending to his cattle or riding on his John Deere Tractor. Dudley's hobbies included fishing with friends Freddy Ebner and Jay Lane and working on cars for friends and neighbors. There was a standing joke that the house in Round Rock always looked like a used car lot because of all the vehicles.Dudley was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Kay Eckert, and parents JD and Mary Eckert. He is survived by younger brother Mike Maurice (Buddy) Eckert and wife Doris of Fredericksburg, children Stephanie Kay Eckert of Hutto, Jay Dudley Eckert of Georgetown and Laura Delaine Eckert of Weir, his beloved pets and many wonderful friends.The family wishes to thank all of the "Angels" at Altus Hospice for their kindness and loving care. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 6-8 pm at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown (393 N IH 35). Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:00 am at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown with Dr. Glenn Hickman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williamson County Animal Shelter, 1855 S.E. Inner Loop, Georgetown, TX 78626, or the Weir Volunteer Fire Department.
