Lt. Colonel James G. Schuricht (retired), 94, of Sun City, Georgetown, TX passed away March 2, 2018 in Georgetown, TX. He was born June 30, 1923 in Norton, KS to George Henry Schuricht and Esther Mahanna Schuricht. He spent his childhood in Hoxie, KS and graduated from Sheridan County H.S. in 1941. He married Bernice G. Cook on December 27, 1946 in Washington DC and later married Carolyne (Lee) Martin on May 29, 1981 in Austin, TX. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps Cadet Program on August 4, 1943. After navigator training at various bases in the U.S. he shipped out on the Queen Elizabeth from New York to Grafton Underwood in Great Britain in February of 1945. He participated in 12 air missions flying B17s, including the last mission of WW11 in Europe over Pilson, Czechoslovakia on April 25, 1945. He then spent the next year in France as part of the occupational forces. After returning to the U.S. he was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska, Loring AFB in Maine and Biggs AFB in El Paso TX. During the last 10 of his 23 year career in the Air Force he flew in B52s as a navigator. He retired as a Lt. Colonel on June 30, 1966. After retirement he graduated with a major in economics from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1967. He went on to a second career in Civil Service at Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in St. Louis, MO. and the U.S. Treasury Dept. in Austin, TX and retired in 1988. He and his wife Lee enjoyed traveling. He also had a passion for photography, a lifelong love of music, an interest in politics and health and fitness. In 1996 they moved from Austin to Sun City near Georgetown, TX. He is survived by his wife Carolyne (Lee) Schuricht of Georgetown TX., daughters and sons in law: Linda & Chuck Walker of Irvine CA. and Patti & John Cantrall of Garden Grove, CA., step daughter: Cheryl Howell of Sun City TX, step daughter and son in law: Karen & Steve London of Austin TX and sister and brother in law: Jean & Neil Seaman of Overland Park KS. He was predeceased by his first wife Bernice Schuricht and his parents George & Esther Schuricht of Hoxie KS. A graveside service with military honors for family will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen TX.
