Janis was born in Oklahoma City on October 10, 1947 to her parents, Leonard and Virginia Anderson. She lived in Oklahoma prior to moving to Texas. Janis was a graduate of Permian High School and earned both a BA and MA in Mathematics from the University of Texas Austin. She loved teaching math and was a member of Mensa. Learning to speak Japanese, she taught in Japan for several years.
Janis was known for her quick wit. She loved books and could quote from many of them. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Anderson, and her grandparents. Janis is survived by her mother, Virginia Anderson and sister Nancy Anderson of Georgetown TX., her sister Karen Turner and brother-in law Lloyd Turner of Abilene TX and niece Susan Colman and her husband Jarrett of Castle Pines CO; and her great nephews, Brett and Pearce Coleman.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home. Interment will be Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:30 am at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13313 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
