Jerry Ralph Hawkins was born April 7th, 1943 to George Therron Hawkins and Una Harriett (Matthews) Hawkins in East Chicago, Indiana, and passed away in Georgetown, TX on December 27th, 2008. He is survived by brother, G. Ray Hawkins and wife Susan of Beverly Hills, CA, sister, Jt Hawkins of New Hampshire, half-brother Richard Hawkins and wife Diane of Indiana, half-sister Peggy Emmington of Kentucky, and a son, Scott Kosmecki and wife Brandi currently residing in Tanzania, Africa. Also surviving are an aunt, Marjorie Riggs of Hebron, Indiana as well as many cousins and numerous friends. Jerry was a most unique human being with a big heart and even bigger smile. He was a gifted musician with a beautiful voice, a wonderful story teller, a history buff, a loyal and devoted friend, and was known to many as somewhat of an authority on a variety of antiques and collectibles. He was also considered one of the top authorities on antique silver in the country according to the Museum at Valley Forge and frequently was the “go to guy” for information. He was an insatiable seeker of knowledge and soaked up facts and useful, as well as trivial, information like a sponge. Helping and educating others in a variety of ways was his life’s work, his personal ministry. He was a trusted peer counselor to many dealing with substance abuse as he himself had fought that battle as a young man, and he was active in an ongoing prison ministry as well. Jerry was fascinated with personality categories and said his ultimate goal was to write the definitive book on personalities. Jerry wore many hats in his lifetime, literally and figuratively, hats being something he collected and relished wearing. He worked for the City Planning Office in Seattle, Washington, and also spent time as a traveling musician in Alaska (a state he dearly loved). Jerry visited Texas in the early 80’s falling in love with Central Texas and it’s vibrant music scene. Georgetown and environs had been his home for many years. He was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church as well as the San Gabriel Masonic Lodge No. 89. A memorial service is set for 4PM, Friday, January 23rd at the Main St. Baptist Church in Georgetown with open reception to follow at San Gabriel Masonic Lodge, 900 N. College. Arrangements under the auspices of Gabriels Funeral Chapel.
