

John Paul Szendrey, of Round Rock, Texas died on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Seton Hospital – Williamson County of respiratory failure. He was 75 years old. John was born on December 19, 1935 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the youngest of twelve children. Throughout his life, John was a lover of nature and the outdoors, a lover of science and a humble-believer in a loving God. John proudly served his country for 31 years as an Air Force navigator, both on active duty and in the Reserves, earning the rank of Lt. Colonel. John proudly served his community as an educator, teaching Physical Science and Chemistry at Lanier and Reagan High Schools in Austin, Texas and at Austin Community College.
Most important to him was his role as a proud and loving father of five children: Lee Anna Marie Bailey of Maxwell, Texas, J. Michael Szendrey (deceased), J. Eric Szendrey of McGill, Nevada, J. Edward Szendrey of Maryknoll, New York and J. Paul Szendrey of Georgetown, Texas. He will be greatly missed by his children, as well as by his Son-in-law Billy Bailey, Daughter-in-law Barbara Szendrey, thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his sisters Bertha Schreiber and Marguerite Nierle.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas with a reciting of the rosary at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock, Texas with Father J. Edward Szendrey officiating. A military graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
