Keith Wolfe, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in Georgetown, Texas. He was born January 14, 1929 in Struthers, Ohio to Georgia Conway Wolfe and Quay Ellwood Wolfe. At a young age, his family moved to Knoxdale, PA and Brookville, PA where he attended Brookville HS. He later earned his GED and several certificates in technical courses.
Keith joined the U.S. Army in 1948 and was trained as an aircraft mechanic and repairman, as well as helicopter crew chief. During his 20+ years of service, he performed duty in Dachau, Germany, two tours in Vietnam, witnessed atomic testing in Nevada, as well as serving tours in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Ft. Rucker, Alabama, and other duty stations in Germany. His final assignment was Wertheim, Germany, and he retired in 1972. Following his military retirement, he and his family lived in Ozark, Alabama, and then moved to Prairie Grove, Arkansas, eventually settling in Texas.
During his tour of duty at Dachau, Keith met Hildegard Strohmeier, who he married in 1952. He is survived by his wife Hildegard, his daughter Elsa Ellis (Larry), daughter Anita Christensen (Jerry), son Michael Wolfe (Dianna) and son Timothy Wolfe (Shari). He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Rebecca Wolfe, Benjamin Wolfe (Beth), Darby Ellis (Aimee), Larisa Grensted (CJ), Taylor Wolfe, Jenee Jagoda (Daniel), Cameron Wolfe and his five great-grandchildren: Kaylen Wolfe, AJ Wolfe, Koen Wolfe, Oliver Ellis, and Chloe Grensted. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Wolfe Myers. Keith was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joy Wolfe Hancox.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and devoted to his family, Keith loved fishing, hunting, repairing cars, and woodworking. Throughout the years, he worked on many projects for his family and friends. He also willingly lent a helping hand to those in need. He will truly be missed by all.
Keith’s family wishes to thank Altus Hospice, Visiting Angels, and St. David's Hospitals in Georgetown and Round Rock for the care he has received over the last few years, especially these last few months.
The funeral service will be Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas will follow at a later date.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Texas Humane Heroes, St David's Hospital, or Wounded Warriors in Keith’s name.
