

Dr. Larry W. James has Gone West. On April 20, 2026, he passed away while sleeping in his favorite recliner. His life began eighty years before on September 15, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the Second World War ended. His parents, Conrad "Spot" James and Freddie Mae "Madie" James had previously welcomed Dr. James older brother, Conrad Randal "Randy" James. It was in Tulsa that Dr. James took his first airplane ride, which sparked a lifelong passion for aviation.
The family lived in Houston before settling in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Dr. James graduated from Byrd High School and stood out as a leader of the ROTC program. Dr. James was an alumnus of Centenary University where he joined the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University, and he remained of lifelong fan of the Tigers.
Following completion of his medical degree, Dr. James enlisted in the United States Army in 1975. He served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Upon completion of his service in 1977, Dr. James moved to Austin where he treated asthma and allergies for the next forty years. He helped his patients through many an otherwise miserable Central Texas cedar season.
Upon retiring from his allergy practice, Dr. James realized his lifelong dream of spending his days at the airport by becoming a flight surgeon, performing physicals for pilots. He was a Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force and was inducted into the Quiet Birdmen. He greatly appreciated his association with Pilot's Choice Aviation.
Dr. James was an avid Scouter and enjoyed a long association with Boy Scout Troop 48 at the Crestview United Methodist Church in Austin.
Dr. James was an early member of the Covenant United Methodist Church in Austin and contributed to the early growth of the congregation. He became a member of the First United Methodist Church after moving to Georgetown.
Dr. James is survived by his son, Joe; daughter-in-law, Dawn; and granddaughter, Amelia. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628, US, on May 13, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home on May 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660, US, on May 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
