

Laura was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she graduated from Rosary High School in 1964. She entered a Dominican Catholic Convent from 1965 to 1966. From her youth, Laura excelled in sports, lettering in baseball at St. Suzanne's Elementary School and Rosary High School in Detroit.
In 1968, Laura enlisted in the US Navy, where she had a stellar career. She was named Sailor of the Year in both 1979 and 1980 and was the model for the Wave uniform. Laura received many promotions and retired as a Master Chief in 1994. She was frequently recognized in newspaper articles for her talent and proficiency in both golf and bowling throughout her Navy career.
Following her military career, she embarked on a second career at The Henry Ford Museum as head of Security in Dearborn, Michigan.
Laura moved to Sun City, Texas, in 2016 to be closer to her retired Navy friends and to play golf. She lived there for 10 years and was an active member of The Worship Place, an interdenominational church in Sun City, attending services with her close friend Charlotte French. Her many friends and neighbors supported her during her long battle with cancer, which began in 2017.
Laura was predeceased by her mother, Lillian Sarna, in 2000; her father, Leo Sarna, in 2007; her nephew, Daniel Sarna, in 2008; and her brother, Richard Skrobecki, in 2023.
She is survived by her brother, James (Suzanne) Sarna of Williamsburg, Michigan; brother, Tony Sarna of Detroit, Michigan; sister-in-law, Jackie (Skrobecki) Linville of Novi, Michigan; cousin, Barbara Fras of Commerce Township, Michigan; nephews Richard, David, and Thomas Skrobecki, James Sarna Jr., and Geffrey Sarna; nieces Laura Dytewski, Christine Riesser, and Lindsey Sarna; as well as 11 great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Laura will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, her love for life, and her enduring strength in the face of adversity.
