I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Lillie Mae's passing.I will always remember when I was a young girl going to the farm and staying with Bobbie. Being a city girl, this was quite an experience for me. After all, I had never been around cows before. These memories of the good times I had staying with Bobbie and going swimming at Starcke Park are forever engraved in my memory.Aunt Lillie Mae had a way of making everyone have a great time and this is what I will always remember about her. I am sure she is having her WELCOME to HEAVEN party right now with all the relatives there rolling out the Red Carpet for her. What a Joyous Day this must be for the family members who have already gone before her, especially Uncle Milton.May you find some peace and comfort in visualizing this joyous occasion in heaven.This thought helps me when I think about how much I miss Mother and Daddy (Maxine and Ernest Knodel) and knowing that someday we will all be together again.

Things I Admired and Learned from Lillie Wessels:

I called her "Mom" because, as wife of her younger son, Wes, she was my second mother.  She loved cooking and entertaining.  I admired her creativity domestically in decorating, sewing, cooking, flowers and crafts.

Two things were very important to "Mom."  She loved family and family events.  From her, I learned to (1) celebrate every important occasion to make memories and (2) stay close by getting together often and keeping in touch.  

I called her often, every other day or so.  I will miss checking in on "Mom."  I will also  miss her sparkle and her generous spirit

I have many fond memories of Aunt Lillie. She always spoiled us girls anytime we got to see her. She will be greatly missed.

May God supply us with strength to face today, hope to face tomorrow, and peace to face the future.  Aunt Lillie always had a smile and was a sweet person to be around.  She will be missed.

I have so many fond memories of Aunt Lillie growing up.  She was always so sweet and interested in all of us.   An amazing cook no doubt.   I last saw her at Moms during the sibling reunion they would all have, just a month before Mom passed away.   Her spirits were good and we remember her red lipstick and nail polish.   Our thoughts are with all of her amazing children, grandchildren and great grandchildren..  She passed on a lasting legacy that is evident in the eyes of all who were touched by her grace and kind ways.

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of our Nanny.  We know in our hearts she has gone on to a better place, free of any pain or discomfort.  Nanny was always outgoing, inquisitive, caring, and fun to be around.  I always admired her energy for life , even into her older years.  We had a lot of deep conversations, especially when my Dad was sick.  We will miss her terribly, but this celebration of life today and tomorrow will be bittersweet.   Always in our hearts !

We are so sadden by the passing of Miss Lillie.  We have so many fond memories of her and the whole family attending family reunions, going to Marble Falls and enjoying all the good family games and fun.  Of course, all of this included all the wonderful family meals her loving hands prepared.  She always wanted her family and friends to enjoy themselves.  She was a true Southern Belle.

I always loved visiting Aunt Lillie as a child on the farm in Seguin.  She was a great cook and a wonderful hostess to our family.  I will miss seeing her at our family reunions!  She had such a sweet spirit and a beautiful smile.

I am one of Lillie's 8 grandchildren, and my daughter, Isabella, is one of her 21 great grandchildren.  

We called our grandmother and great grandmother Nanny, though she was always a grandmother and never some sort of assistant. 

One thing about Nanny that always touched me was the way she tuned up to cry at every parting.  

Her separation anxiety began to build a couple of minutes before the parting, and I started to anticipate it - with joy! Each time I anticipated it, sure enough, there she would go balling her eyes out. 

This of course, caused me to start crying. It was contagious warmth and love and surely one reason other members of the Wessel clan, including this one, has been known to shed some tears.

Grandma, thanks for your tenderness and love. 

And, yes, I am shedding some tears at this parting, too.

Nanny loved her family.  She always loved knowing what was going on with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She would tell stories about all of us to our own kids and make us laugh.   I probably know more about my dad, uncle Wes and Aunt Barbara's childhood antics than I should but I loved hearing every story (sometimes more than once).  She felt things deeply.  Nanny taught me sometimes it just makes you feel better to have a good cry.  I was very blessed to be able to spend a lot of time with Nanny when she lived close to my house.  I would visit her often and sometimes do nothing but visit or sometimes do some honey do's.  It made my heart happy when she called me her "Buddy".  One time we were talking about when her "day" would come and I told her I could get a tattoo of a Lily in her honor.  It was hilarious how shocked she looked at the idea!  I can still hear her voice as it got all shrill, "Sheri!!!  Don't you dare do that!!!  Oh NOOooooo!!!"  It is making me laugh as I type this.  Nanny, I love you for being exactly who you were every single day!  Miss you, but Love you even more!

My brothers and I always loved getting to go Aunt Lillie and Uncle Milton's house in Houston.  She was a wonderful aunt!   Stephen Nutt(Dallas,Texas)

Thanks for all that you did for Ron, Barbara and me over the years, especially when we were growing up on the farm. You were always there with a smile.  I'll never forget the day Ron and I had really been bad and you were getting ready to spank us, so we crawled between the mattresses on the bed, causing you to crack up with laughter and forget the spanking.  May you laugh a lot and rest in peace.

Time passes so fast, it seems like just yesterday I was visiting for a couple weeks at the farm in Seguin. Aunt Lillie cooks the best fried chicken I think I ever had. She drove us to swimming lessons at the pool in Seguin, and did all sorts of good things for us. I will surly miss her and the stories she would tell. Last November I shared precious time with my Grandma, Lillie Mae Wessels, at her home in Houston. We talked about her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, health care and travel...the usual stuff. She was an energetic spirit, always ready to open her home to friends and family to share the table and dig into Blue Bell ice cream. She especially loved my Grandpa (Milton Arthur), holidays, dirty jokes, birthdays, family reunions, eating out, and exploring far away places like Australia, Germany, and Caribbean islands. She was feisty and sweet, cunning and savvy, always gentle, but sometimes grumpy. 

She loved deeply and will be sorely missed as we celebrate 89 years at her funeral this Friday, near Austin. Prayers and blessings to all who loved and lost her, especially my Dad, Mom, Aunt Barbara, and Uncle Ron. /bzw
