Luis R. Zamot, a beloved father and grandfather, dedicated public servant, and active community member, passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown, Texas, on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 75.
Luis was born in Manhattan, New York, on May 13, 1950, to Ramon Zamot and Encarnacion Quijano. Luis grew up in the Bronx, NY, and often spoke of his time at St. Luke’s Middle School, recalling the tremendous positive impact the education and close bonds with his friends had on his life. He recognized and deeply appreciated the sacrifices his parents made to ensure he received that foundation.
Throughout his professional life, Luis worked in financial services and also served as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Mediator for a variety of organizations, most recently the United States Postal Service. His belief in being involved with community and local government was strong; his commitment to his community was evident through his service as a Civil Service Commissioner for Williamson County, Texas.
A true intellectual, Luis had an enduring love for reading and learning. He was a history buff who believed it was vital to know the past to make better choices for the future. As a matter of lifelong habit, he regularly read the Webster dictionary to expand his vernacular, always driven by his desire to gather all information needed to make the best decisions. Luis’s passions extended beyond his professional and civic life; cooking was a true joy, and he enjoyed making a variety of dishes for “La Familia” gatherings in past years.
Luis was a hard worker who demonstrated his incredible work ethic and unwavering positive attitude daily. He lived by the belief that Attitude is everything and often shared the powerful words of Charles Swindoll:
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts... It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes."
Most of all, he cherished spending time with his daughters and their families, going to church, imparting knowledge, praying as a family and offering blessings, and love to this generation and the many to come.
He is survived by his daughters, Surei C. Scanlon and Marisa C. Freo; sons-in-law, Kerry Scanlon and Stephen Freo; his seven grandchildren: Jacinda Knightner, Randy Knightner, Christine Scanlon, Savannah Freo, Sydney Freo, Sierra Freo, and Elijah Freo; and his sister, Carmen H. Zamot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Zamot and Encarnacion Quijano Zamot, his sister, Luz E. Zamot; and the love of his life, Mildred Lopez.
