

Richard Albert Diaz (aka ‘Popo’) was called to Heaven December 24, 2021 at the age of 71. A lifetime resident/native of Georgetown, TX. Who lived in Lubbock, TX his last 4 years with his devoted granddaughter, Llauren Diaz, daughter, Stacy Diaz and great grandchildren Aidynn and Dylan Diaz. He was born on February 27th, 1950.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Rebecca Valdez Diaz of 41 years, great grandson, Noah. His mother Anita Z. Diaz, his father, Henry Peaslee, brothers Thomas (Tommy) Z Diaz, Jimmy (Santiago) Z. Diaz, Sister Anita Z. Jones all from Georgetown, TX.
Richard Diaz was a Marine Corps Reserve of 6 years in completion of Machine Gunner. He received multiple awards; a Rifle Marksman Badge, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Letter of Appreciation. Richard obtained his Sheriffs’ Certificate. He was self-employed in Masonry work for many years, then later moved in his career path working with Central Texas Treatment Center (CTTC) and retired from Williamson County Juvenile Center in Georgetown TX. After retirement, it was to no surprise he found himself helping again with Lubbock County Community Corrections Facility.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories granddaughter Llauren, son, Richard A. (Ricky) daughter Stacy Diaz-Lay. Surviving sister, Martha Hurtado (husband, Ignacio), brothers, twin brothers, Robert & Randy Diaz, as well as Edward Diaz (wife, Robin). Richard’s grandchildren, Brandon Gutierrez, and Blake & Tabitha Diaz; Brian, Bruce, & Rebecca Lay; great grandchildren, Aidynn and Dylan Diaz; Brian Lay. By Richard’s request, memorial donations should be made to the Williamson County Juvenile Detention Center, 200 Wilco Way, Georgetown, TX, 78626 in Lieu of Flowers.
Richard Diaz’s Viewing & Service will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Home, 393 N I35, Georgetown, TX, 78628. The Viewing will be at 6 to 8pm on January 3rd, and the Service will be at 2pm on January 4th.
