Mitch graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1966 and commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Mitch deployed all over the world while in the Army. His first duty station was South Korea, where he met the love of his life, Myong. While on tour in Vietnam as an Infantry Officer, Mitch returned to South Korea and married his one true love.
Mitch and Myong traveled the world while serving in the Army, but always returned to Fort Hood, which they called home for many years. Mitch and Myong had 4 daughters: Donna, Laura, Michele, and Terri. Mitch received several awards during his service to our country, most notably the Bronze Star with three oak leaf clusters. He retired from the Army as Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of service.
Mitch, who had always had an entrepreneurial spirit, opened several successful businesses in the Killeen, Round Rock, and Austin area over his lifetime. His true passion, however, was always his family. He loved traveling the world with them. Whether it was a road trip across the United States in the family van or a cruise through the Panama Canal, Mitch would ensure that his family experienced life and culture. “Pompa” attended all of the grandchildren’s sporting events or school functions that he could, simply to show that he loved them.
Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Michener, his sister, Barbara Michener, and his daughter, Michele Michener Graham. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Myong Hwa Michener; daughters, Donna (Alan) McDonald of Georgetown, TX, Laura (Nathan) Graves of Houston, TX, and Terri (Randall) Abernathy of Georgetown, TX. Mitch is also survived by his grandchildren: Brice (Heather) Buchhorn, Cullen Michener, Branden and Kaden McDonald, Nathan Jr., Ella, and Jacob Graves, Caleb and Evelyn Abernathy, and Devin Graham.
